Glute Power Workshop

with Emma Peterson

As sedentary lifestyles become more and more common in our modern world, so do the negative side effects of working a job with very little movement involved. The biggest victims of staying seated most of the day are your gluteal muscles. These muscles that live in your booty are responsible for stability. Not using them can have disastrous effects on your posture, balance, and joint alignment.

In this fantastic workshop with Emma Peterson we delved into the world of Glute Power. She taught us the importance of our glutes and how to best activate them in our workouts to get those big booty gains.

She began by taking us through every facet of lower body workout form. We experimented with pelvic floor twists and tilts, acknowledging that proper pelvic alignment is very important for lower back safety. From the pelvis she moved through each body part with a focus on keeping us “stable and safe”. From foot placement to ankles to knees to hips, Emma was ready with pro tips on how to change your booty building from none to yum!

Overall, this workshop was a masterclass in form. Emma encouraged us to move as slowly as possible between full-depth squats, reverse lunges and intentional hip hinging exercises, she made us question what our bodies feel like as we do these movements. Where do I feel resistance? Where do I feel fluidity? What muscles are compensating for my changing form? She urged us to hone in on our glutes, hips and hamstrings, giving us the space to explore how to achieve full activation in our unique bodies.

“Glutes are the powerhouse of the body.” She encourages us as we finish off the workshop with an intense circuit of Bulgarian Split Squats, Kneel to Rise Squats and Power Clamshells. After educating us on all the glute tools we have at our disposal, Emma gave us a challenging workout where we could try out the new techniques we had just learned. While most people think quads are the powerhouse of your lower body, the glutes take most of the load of walking and balancing. They are the main muscles responsible for keeping us upright and stable. Neglecting the glutes can lead to poor balance, lower back pain and poor joint alignment. As someone who works mostly from a desk, my glutes were over the moon to be given the spotlight for this 75-minute session!
